Microbiome science is developing rapidly and much remains unknown. Where the evidence for an observation is limited, your report states this explicitly.

Scientific research shows that the gut microbiome communicates with the body through several biological systems: including the nervous system, the immune system, hormones and substances produced by gut bacteria.[1] This field of research is developing rapidly and not all connections have been fully clarified yet. What follows describes what research suggests so far — not what is established for any individual situation.

The gut and the brain are in constant communication: via nerve pathways, via the immune system, via hormones and via substances produced by gut bacteria.[1][3]

Research suggests that changes in the gut microbiome may be linked to mood, stress sensitivity, cognitive function and certain mental health conditions.[5][8] The gut microbiome may, among other things, influence the availability of substances involved in the production and regulation of neurotransmitters.[9] This is a complex field of research in which much remains unclear.[7]

A gut microbiome analysis does not provide a diagnosis and cannot establish or rule out mental or psychiatric conditions.[5][10]

There is growing evidence for a relationship between the gut microbiome and the skin.[11][13]

Disruptions in the gut ecosystem appear to be linked to inflammatory processes that may also play a role in certain skin conditions.[12][15] This is the subject of extensive research, but the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood.[11]
